All time Favourite!

So in Bangalore i think this place is going to be my first love and ALL-TIME-FAV Friday evening hangout.. Was here for the first time on a sweet and an almost non-alcoholic dinner but everytime i have been here after that, trust me, i have memory in flashes :-)

Monkey Bar!!!

Where are they?
14/1 Krishna Manere, Wood Street, Ashok Nagar BANGALORE –560025 Karnataka  India
+91 80 4111 6878

A completely MAD place to be on Friday evenings.. You enter with a bunch of friends and quietly occupy one of the BIG tables [if you are lucky enough to get one of them] and then the evening begins.. Stress of the week, arguments and fights you have been through, office politics and that urge to abuse someone, naughty flirting with someone you have been eye-ing for a while.. everything just pours itself out with a couple of beers followed by a round of Jager bomb shots followed by cocktails and another round of double Jager shots and more beer.. oh and yes.. all of this is Per Head by the way :-)

What happens next? Well, you get on the couch and shake a leg :-) Trust me, this is the BEST thing about this place.. Staff and Management at Monkey Bar realize that you have had a very SUCKY week and hence just allow you to 'LET GO'!! The place turns into the most happening place on Fridays in Bangalore post 8:30pm and no matter how many times you go here..Just like Goa.. you dont ever not wanna go here again!

Prices?
Well if you order so many Jager shots [there was once each of us in a group of 15 had 3 shots], you are bound to get a bill as long as your height but then if that's all your going to have, you will be 'over-whelmed' with joy and not care enough for what numbers you see on that white sheet of rectangular paper once the night is done :-)

Power of Thums Up!

You know there was a time when i found Thums Up the worst of all beverages, so strong that i couldnt even feel what i am drinking.. all that would happen post drinking the cool drink was an explosion in my stomach which i thought was the worst thing to happen after an amazing Dal Chawal meal.. But then.. i grew up! and things changed!!

Introduced to the rue benefits of the drink by a really 'Special Friend' ;-) i was made to have this drink after ages again post a HEAVY, and trust me when i say Heavy, it was heavy [normally we Punjus dont find a lot of food heavy]..so yea.. a very very heavy Andhra Meal at my all time favourite Nandhini Restaurant in Bangalore, on St. Marks Road.. That day i did feel an explosion in my tummy again.. but guess what.. the heavy meal had suddenly become so much more orgasmic [ahem ahem..didnt find a better word] that i took another serving of rice [i was already 3 servings down]..

But just Thums Up doesnt do the trick.. there is a way to drink it during a heavy meal and i am obligated to enlighten you with it..

Thums Up + LOTS of Ice = Something Completely Toofaani!

Visit only if this is the only place left on planet Earth for a vacation!

Bangalore weather is extremely tempting to venture out and all the people around you are traveling across states to enjoy Monsoon season.. I unfortunately had just the weekend to travel somewhere and as always not too much money either.. The other 'most important' thing that my friends wanted to do for this weekend was travel by Road! [i am very scared of road trips, esp in India]. So after considering all the above indispensable points, we shortlisted places that we could visit for the weekend and finally decided upon Yelagiri!

Now, the drive was fun.. even though i kept getting spooked out by the risky overtakes our driver was taking, but still manageable. It took us about 5 hours to reach [Dont Worry.. we halted for a LOT of smoke breaks and loo breaks and oh-i-want-to-stretch breaks and driving feeling sleepy, hence Tea breaks!]. We had made a booking at Bellevue Castle resort but after reaching there we realized 3 things:
1. Its reallyyyyy inside from the main city, there is no city there actually so lets say the crowded, little activity area!

2. They didnt have a fully functional kitchen and were bringing food from restaurants to serve

3. The area of the hotel property was really small! I thought i was visiting someone's house in Indira Nagar [those 2/3 storey apartments]

However, i must tell you that the rooms are BRILLIANT! they are absolutely pretty!

But because of the above 3 key points, we decided to not stay there and hunt for another hotel. Now this was the BIGGEST mistake we made! There is not a single hotel where the rooms were as good as this one! We were recommended by some local people there to check out Landmark Hotel but that was unfortunately full.. After roaming like nomads on the streets for close to 2 hours we finally found this brand new building which was called Chariot Hotel. But remember.. the people there are confused about 2 hotels when they ask for Chariot Hotel. The one they will direct you to is the Old Kumarraja Palace hotel which is now called Chariot Hotel.. But DONT GO THERE.. else you will just find a BIG swimming pool with dirty black water and really cramped up rooms!

There is a Chariot Hotel on the main road, right next to the Musical Fountain Garden..the building has a slope drive way in front of it. Now this place is a new building, hence the rooms are basic but clean. The food is also good, again basic south Indian and north Indian food but very ghar type khana. The staff is very sweet and helpful, and i think thats the deal breaker where ever you travel. So for stay this place is definitely recommended.

Now, coming to Yelagiri as a place to visit.. I am a kind of person who finds Hill Stations boring simply because there are just multiple sunset points, sunrise points, suicide points, waterfalls but at Yelagiri.. there is..wait for it.. NOTHING! Apart from a really boring Musical Fountain garden which has a mini aquarium with no Fish and some few fresh water fish, but apart from that there is absolutely nothing to do in this 'so called' hill station!

What did we do there for 1 night? Drank Danced Drank Danced Drank Ate Danced Drank and Slept..
So basically.. if you have a bunch of good friends, a LOT of alcohol and no hiccups with food.. Yelagiri is fine.. else Avoid!

Bangalore weather acts like a Hair Dryer for me..

Never before has this happened in any other city, nor did i ever notice this was ACTUALLY happening in Bangalore.. but today i had an epiphany while walking to my office..

So i had washed my hair early this morning and in the rush to reach office quickly, i didnt spend any time drying them and left home with a mess on top of my head. It is a 2 minute walk from my home to office [Yes, i stay at the lovely Brigade Gateway and work at World Trade Center]. It was even before i entered my office building that i realized my hair were perfectly blow-dried, soft and almost styled into its natural middle parting..

The wind in this city is so strong and chilly that you honestly dont need to waste that electricity and time in taking the effort to style/dry your hair. So the next time the parlor stylist asks you for a couple of high Gandhi notes for a simple blow dry, simply take them for a walk in the morning :-)

Could this also be a start-up idea? You never know :-)

A pledge - 2013!

So basically at the start of 2013 I realized that i dont want to spend the entire year like all years i have spent before - work work work!! Goals Goals Goals!! Save Save Save!!
In 2013, i will TRAVEL! Sounds cliche? But who doesnt want to travel to every inch and corner of the world.. But yes, lack of holidays and money [ofcourse] leads to only small weekend getaways and i have done 3 so far - Pondicherry, Kumarakom and Goaaaaaa :-)

So i will obviously write about them individually very soon along with routes, spends, must-sees etc. but this is a small glimpse into the 3 places :)

Pondicherry - 22nd - 24th Feb 2013

Kumarakom - 19th Apr - 22nd Apr 2013

Goa - 6th July - 8th July 2013

Will update pic by tonight, its in my camera :-)
